About the founder
Cloud is the new normal, and the only way for a cloud developer and consultant to effectively meet demands of customers is to commit to a continuous process of learning, experimenting, and building, whilst at the same time effectively sharing those skills, and communicating these mind shifting cloud architecting concepts with customers.
My experience in Amazon Web Services over the last two years include the majority of AWS products and services, with a focus on Data Lakes, Big Data and Analytics, as well as Serverless Architectures. I hold current certifications as an AWS Cloud Practitioner, and an Associate AWS Solutions Architect.
Data Lakes, Big Data and Analytics –
I often draw on AWS’s EC2, RDS, EMR, Glue, S3, Athena, and Quicksight for solutions.
Serverless Architectures –
I have implemented and currently support production applications with AWS Lambda, API Gateway, CloudFront, S3, DynamoDb, CloudWatch, CloudFormation, Step Functions, Cognito.
IAM, EC2, VPC, Auto Scaling, security and networking – I currently manage a number of production workloads, and continually revise architectures to ensure the solutions are optimal, secure, and according to AWS Best Practices.
Data Management and Analytics:
In addition to the AWS products and services that are ideal for data and analytics workloads, I also often use the following frameworks and technologies: SQL, Apache Spark, Scala, Python, Jupyter, Zeppelin, Databricks, Microsoft Excel, Power BI and Tableau. I also work with, and set up APIs for data integration, ingestion and mining workloads.
Early education and experience:
I have started my journey in Information Technology after I’ve obtained a Bachelor of Science (Honours) Cum Laude in Computer Science in 1997 from the University of Pretoria in South Africa, my country of birth.
I have enjoyed a 15 year career as an SAP ABAP Consultant, working on various SAP Implementation and Maintenance projects. I was privileged to gain experience across all SAP Modules, including HR, Payroll, FI, MM, SD, PM with customers including Mercedes Benz, Volkswagen, T-Systems, debis Fleet Management, Bosch, and Powertech.
Web Development and Application Frameworks:
AWS Cloud, Data and Analytics:
My journey in application development led me to explore AWS, and after completing two certifications, I have since primarily focused on AWS products and services, particularly those relating to the areas of data management, big data and analytics.
